Storing homemade Soup

Options
Hello

I've just made some home made soup, red pepper, tomato and onion and it's bloody loverley, yum, yum. lots of cayenne pepper and ..............well you can imagine lol.

Anyway, i need to get it out of the pan. I've put it in some glass jars and want to store it for a while, i know i could freeze it, it doesn't contain any cream but can i keep it in the jars and simply leave it in the cupboard?

Just like any other soup.

Unlikely - it'll probably start to ferment within a couple of days ;) Get it frozen, is my advice :D

    Hi Nick,
I wouldn't be too sure - have you put any preservatives in there? I would try the fridge it may last two or three days that way.

Goodness no :) it won't keep at room temperature. Soup that you buy in glass jars has been heat-processed in a water bath.

Bung it in the freezer it really is the easiest and safest option. Use plastic containers, old yogurt/margarine tubs or plastic bags.

I am looking into zip lock bags for freezing soup to save on space.... and save all those containers being unused for ages!

You can buy Pour & Store bags at Tesco and Sainsbos. They're resealable, stand up on their own and can go in the microwave too.

I agree, these are brilliant. I got mine in Home Bargains reduced to 50p :money: - unfortunately that was a little while ago - but worth keeping a lookout.

Are these reusable? I notice Sainsburys have got them for 99p and three for 2.

I'm not sure if they're technically reusable ... but I've reused mine!
