Alternative beers?

My OH has recently taken to drinking Leffe Blond after a holiday in Belgium. He's really enjoying it but it is quite expensive. Any beer drinkers out there know of anything similar but cheaper?

    I don't know how much Leffe Blonde is, but Lidl are doing large (as in as large as a winebottle) bottles of Hoegaarden at the moment for £2.49 each. that's a blonde wheat beer that my OH loves, he's drunk Leffe Blonde and says Hoegaarden is similar. You could also check Aldi, they do a special range of beers thats a bit more expensive than their usual beer, and i think there's a wheat blonde beer in there, if not, they certainly do a polish wheat blonde beer but i can't remember how much they are unfortunately (I only know about the Hoegaarden cos that's what my OH loves!).

    Thanks, kethry, will go in search of wheat blonde beer as you suggest. Leffe Blonde is about £4.30 for 4 bottles in Asda (went up recently from £1 a bottle) unless anyone knows of a cheaper source?

    Hi,

    Do you have a Majestic near you? They're doing 12 bottles for £15. I think they'll deliver free if you buy enough.

    Nick_b, it's cheaper to buy them from Asda than to buy them from Majestic!
    Asda = £4.30 for 4 bottles = £1.075 per bottle
    Majestic = £15 for 12 bottles = £1.25 per bottle

    I wouldn't get a wheat beer, unless you know he'd like that. Leffe isn't a wheat beer, it's a pale Abbey beer.

    I would have thought Duvel or La Trappe, both of which Tesco stocked last time I looked, would be more similar but then they may well not be any cheaper. Or Orval or De Koninck, maybe.

    Or maybe one of the offers for Leffe posted by NickB & Scubabe will suit you best.

    Biggles is right - you have to get the right type of beer and these can be expensive.

    Your OH needs to savour the beer though - not downing it like (shudders) JOhn Smiths !

    Hi maman,

    As your thread has fallen down the old style board I've moved it over to the I Wanna board to see if you can get some more suggestions.

    You're right peb, he does savour it. He's always been a wine drinker so having him drink beer is a new one for him (and me hence the questions).
