smcaul wrote:I have actually complained to the MD of Cabot, they sail very close to the wind as far as the law goes on harrasment. They contacted me once and I gave them my mobile number, I then started to get phantom calls to my mobile where it would ring a couple of times and then hangup, the number was always withheld. And guess what, Cabot use automated dialers, I managed to get them to admit they had made the false calls and then got them to go back through their records, they claim they could not go back any further then 3 days!!! I had also requested in writing that my number be removed from their records, they are obliged to do this, but they did not, hence why I got the calls, I also got one of their staff telling me that they did not have to remove my number and that they could call whenever they liked!!! At the time I was very ill with a liver problem and ME so did not have the energy to argue with them straight away. But when I started to recover I have chased them very hard and am continueing to chase them as they are nothing more then bullies of the worst kind. I can give you the details of their MD if you wish, just send me a PM, Make sure they remove your number from their records or they wil continue to call it forever and a day. And their customer service staff are the rudest people with a complete lack of training, don't even contemplate deaing with anyone below manager level.
Cabot are chasing me for a sum of money, they say I owe, going back about 6 years. I wrote to them in January 'recorded' saying that I dispute the debt in full and do not owe the money. Their answer is to have phoned me 50 plus times since September - each time I have said ' I dispute the debt and please take me to court'. I am now at my wits end which I think they want. I contacted the police about the harrassment and they say I would have to get an injunction through a solicitor. I have called their staff every unmentionable word under the sun and they keep coming back for more. Today I rang the police and insisted they get involved but they won't. If you are reading this CABOT, YOU WILL NOT GET A PENNY from me ever. I promise you if it is the last thing I do. I think they are trying to provoke me into doing something I don't want to!!!
Incidentally you might like to know that cabot have a freephone number 0800 3288338. Every penny saved is a penny yours!!!

Just going off track slightly, I would never set up a direct debit with a DCA as it gives them some control of how much money they take off you. Always pay by standing order as that way you're in control of the amounts that leave your account.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Debt at highest approx £102,000. Debt now (October 2009 - absolutely fork all!!!)

I too have received a letter from Cabot, telling me they have bought the account from citifinancial and that I owe over £3000, for a credit card I had with about 6/7 years ago, I am not 100% sure I paid it completely, but when I moved I redirected my post and, never received any statements, I think i paid it off, but how can I prove it. They sent me another letter a few days later telling me the same thing but the amount was £2.20 different! I have not contacted them, I don't know what to do, I cannot afford to pay this money and do not understand how they can send letters from so long ago. the credit limit on that card was so low, I think it was £200 if that. Can anyone give me some advice. I phoned my bank last night to see if they can give me statements, but that won't really help as I always paid in cash at the bank. The bank can only give me 6 years worth of statements anyway!!0

Cabot are a royal pain, They have been harassing me too. After some reserch I found this http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/#black-consumer-forums-center forum last night. There are some brilliant people on it who will help you. Within 20 minutes I felt much better about things.
Also I think because the debt is so old it is something called statuate barred. Post on the debt forum and an expert will tell you exactly what to do next. There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0 -

Hi
if the debt is this old and you have not piad in the last 6 years (5 in Scotland) then it is statute barred and they cannot enforce the debt in the courts.
Do not contact them in writing at all.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Is it best to send them the letter not acknowledging the debt, or can I just ignore them, and hope they go away. Surely if I send them a letter then they will keep driving me mad. I haven't received anything from them in two weeks now!!
I don't want to open a huge can of worms, unless I have to?Hi
