Okay, firstly there are two types of printer, Laser and Inkjet.
Laser printers cost from £70 upwards for a black and white only printer. They are very cheap to run and exceptionally reliable. A £10 cartridge will be good for around 3,000 pages :j.
Inkjets cost from around £25 and are always colour. The ink prices vary widely - and some manufacturers, such as Lexmark, actually sell the printers at a loss but put huge mark-ups on the ink. Generally, a £5 cartridge will do 100 pages.
I would look at the following websites for good deals:
Dabs.com - Lasers
Dabs.com - Inkjets
Ebuyer - Lasers
Ebuyer - Inkjets
Don't buy official ink/toner cartridges - there are other companies who sell them for much less - look around on here for info0 -
You could always buy a refurbished HP laser printer like this one.
They are probably the widest used simple black laser printers across offices in the world, very very reliable, cheap to run and give good quality prints on all types of paper.
Only draw back is that they are bulkier than most.Treat others as you would like to be treated :A0 -
Try https://www.Misco.co.uk .... I got a great deal on a Lexar colour laser printer, really cheap in comparison to others i have seen.0

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced inkjet colour printer with built in scanner, copier, that can send and receive faxes and will also accept a compact flash memory card. I have looked at a few and am completely baffled.0

Just bought a HP 3920 from Argos today reduced to £29.99 and a 3 year warranty for £4.99, cheaper than replacing the ink in my Lexmark !
Check the warranty though it did come up at £9.99 on the till but its £4.99 in the leaflet so that's what i paid.
Cat number 670/1121 - Printer
883/0791 - warrantyWHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..
Blimey what was that ?
That was your life mate
Oh I wasn’t quite ready can I have another go ?
Sorry mate only one per person.0 -
Gizmoleeds has given great advice and I would only add that before choosing your exact model, check out an ink supplier such as https://www.northdevoncomputers.com and see how much they will charge you for compatible cartridges. Some start at £1. You will find that generally Lexmarks are very very expensive to refuel. Personally I have always gone for Epson. Something like this http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=63081&_LOC=UK would be fine. :xmassign:0

My neighbour recently bought one of these http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1289751623.1134757066@@@@&BV_EngineID=cceeaddghkdfdfgcflgceggdhhmdgml.0&page=Product&fm=2&sm=0&tm=3&sku=024194&category_oid=-24820 but I don't think it was any more than £80, might be wrong but maybe he had a coupon. Ink as ever from https://www.northdevoncomputers.com at £1 a cartridge for compats you can't go far wrong.0
