Radiator Booster - any thoughts?

By increasing the air movement over the radiator it will increase the output and hence warm the room quicker but as you pay for the extra heat it will not be more economical.0

Amazed that heat suits have never been invented. After all, electric blankets cost nowt to run, could easily be integrated into an overall, heated up overnight etc.
Why heat the whole house.0 -

not cheap but probably cheaper than insulating your house to the same level.

Good one shaven, that and Pen's foil hat should keep away the aliens.0

Yes Cardew, I did have one, they wouldn't let me keep it.0

Whilst it seems like a good idea, there is absolutely no evidence that reflective foil(or any of these devices) behind a radiator saves any money.

Place a brick in a bowl of hot water with half of it submerged and the half that is out of the water will reach the same temperature as the rest of the brick.
Cardew,
Not "Strictly" true, the brick would not be a very good conductor and so the end in the warm water would normally be warmer than the end outside of the water.
"In principle" this device would change the "Convection" into "Forced Convection" which would make the heating more efficient, but it's whether its worth the electricity bill to do so.
Two other examples of forced convection (where heat is removed from one body by moving the air in immediate contact with it) is when you blow on a hot drink (we know this works) and inside a Computer where the Chips faster than a 486DX2 have always had a fan on top.
Neither example is touted as a way to heat the air faster or more efficiently, but are used to cool something down faster (hence warm another thing -air- up faster). So the extra power for the fan *may* cost more.
If in doubt: buy yourself some cheap nicads and a cheap solar charger.
As to the Dragon's Den episode, I think he was slated by Deborah Median because she thought it would blow the dust out from behind her radiators.
Personally, I'd recommend Deborah spend some of her millions on a good Dyson Vaccuum Cleaner, and possibly a Housemaid to clean her house if it is that dirty.

No its still set at 19 degrees but the boiler definitely doesn't seem to be on as much. Have a spreadsheet with our gas useage and will keep an eye on the readings. I will see at the end of a month whether it has made any difference to our bill.santas-helper wrote: »I've got one of these and I think it's great. I'm going to plug it into an electricity meter though to see how much electricity it is actually using.
So have either of you noticed any difference now you've been using them for a while? I'm thinking of buying one, but I'm renowned for buying gadgets that end up in the bin a week later so would appreciate any feedback (aka justification for spending money)!0 -
No sense in heating up the furniture, just leave the microwave door open and take the safety off!:rolleyes:0
