Just wanted to say 'Thank You' for your website and top tips. I have been an AA member since 1990 (much to my horror) and was quite surprised to be charge an automatic £127 renewal direct to my credit card - which I paid reluctantly. Reading your email this morning about AA versus RAC made me call them to get a quote as a new customer and they quoted me £69.75. Result.
I called membership to cancel and refund my 'loyalty' 18 year membership to be told my circumstances now warrant a premium of £46 pa(after bartering her down from £95).
They are now refunding my credit card £81 !!!!!
So thank you very much. And tell other people to do this and not just to sit there and pay it like I've been doing all these years on automatic pilot.

hi there all -
I agree with looking around for breakdown cover - its also worth using the comparethemarket website - as they do like for like on a whole range of cover - I am definitely starting the day with the intention of reducing the money I pay - am going to try my AA membership (which I pay £150 currently but quotes new members £108!!) but then will look at some of the others about - anyone out there had any experiences with the less well known breakdown companies??
thanks!0 -
I used to use AA but found the fees would increase for some services although I had been a member for years. I was recommended to try Greenflag and think they are worth considering too.0

After receiving an increased renewal for Green Flag plus a fee for paying monthly, I've been doing some research and looking at customer reviews.
Best deal seems to be Rescuemycar.com. Roadside assistance+recovery+homestart etc. for £31 p.a.0 -
I was thanked by the AA for my 39 loyal years as a customer. And, that'll be £144 thanks. As opposed to a new customer paying only £108 by internet. That did it for me (despite having experienced the AA's first rate service on more than one occasion). I changed to the RAC and used me Tesco Deals vouchers to pay.0

Why not read MSE article on the subject and make some serious savings.

How about £5 net for AA roadside cover? http://www.rpoints.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1175214I think I’m getting a pretty good deal but if others can shoot me down, so be it and I will look at switching.
£35 less £20 M&S voucher less £10 cashback = £5.0 -
How about £0 for RAC

Ok there is a kind of catch.....we used tesco clubcard vouchers to buy the £120 package from RAC and cashed in £30 ish of the vouchers. To us that means free as we would shop at tesco whether we got the points and vouchers or not.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Yes, but the true cost is £30 - what you would have saved if you had used the vouchers to pay for groceries. How about £0 for RAC
