Making a craft box - where do I start?

For xmas, going to do nephew (aged 3) a craft box full of paints, brushes, chalks etc but having trouble finding a box. I want a wooden box so I can paint some of it with chalkboard paint. Anyone doing something similar of know of where some suitable boxes are?

supermarket fruit and veg usually come in wooden boxes that the shop just discard dont they? worth asking and free

Or what about a set of drawers from ikea? They come plain so you can decorate them however you want...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I'm doing an art box for my DD and I'm using on of those large plastic storage tubs with the lid. It was only £3 from the local cheapy shop but will look nice once I've decorated it!
