Hi guys and gals few weeks ago my wife sprang it on me that she owed £32k:eek:. I know she's crap with money but it was a suprise. I refused to bail her out again and she has gone to the CCCS. They advise a DMP as we have a joint disposable income of around £650 per month. To complicate things I have a loan of £18k which paid off my wifes debts 2 years ago which she pays each month. The best route is a DMP that my wife and I administer. She has since got a second job that will mainly cover the monthly payment to me, leaving around £600 for the DMP and me not much worse off. Under a self admisitered DMP she can hopefully get away with not declaring this job?
Two weeks ago she wrote to all creditors stating she was having problems and was consulting the CCCS and could they freeze all interest and charges. So far only 1 of the 17 creditors have responded, the rest just send the same old letters and the charges mount up. This to me is not normal and I am worried charges will keep mounting up. She has changed our home phone number and her mobile has been cut off so post is their only means of contact. Should I be worried about the lack of correspondance? Also are creditors likely to accept a DMP? CCCs say it wil take 5 1/2 years to pay off the amount so a IVA is not the best option.
Opinions please
(BTW I have excellent credit rating and apart from the £18k loan have just a few k on CC')
