If anyone is thinking of using the mooncup 4 the first time, please listen to my story.
I used the mooncup for the first time last week. I went to bed with it in and woke up at 1am feeling very uncomfortable and decided to take it out. I can only remember sitting on the loo and thinking i felt sick, the next i knew i was lying on the bathroom floor in pain with my daughter trying to wake me. I had passed out and smashed my face on the edge of the bath. I was lucky i only had a thick lip, swollen nose and black eyes! What if i had been driving?. I temporarilly lost my memory and had to go to A & E. It was very scary. The hospital have told me i had a cervical shock which resulted in my blood pressure dropping and my body shutting down to protect me. I did not push the mooncup up tooo high as i had cut the stem and it was low enough to be right at the entrance.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Have you notified Mooncup about this? The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

To answer your question, no, I've been using mine for years without any problems. I've never heard of this before. Did the hospital explain to you why the mooncup caused you to have a cervical shock?Owing to financial constraints, the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off until further notice.

Illegitimi Non Carborundum!!!:cool:0 -
Storja it sounds like you had a vasovagal reaction. Did the hospital mention that as a possibility?0

Hi, sounds to me more like a vasovagal-type thing. Immediately after getting out of bed, your blood pressure might be a touch low, and if you pee, you can drop it a bit more. Seeing your own blood could do the same (especially if you're a bloke!) Cervical shock is a different kettle of fish. That happens if the cervix is being stretched. Cervixes are really quite tough, and you'd need to use something more severe than a Mooncup to stretch your cervix! DOI: my wife uses one. I am an Obs & Gynae Dr. Andrew0

Hi there,
So sorry to hear about this. I do hope you are feeling better now?
I've been using a mooncup for years now and I have never had anything like this happen. However, a friend of mine did have toxic shock syndrome as a result of using tampons, which is what prompted me to change over to pads initially, then to the mooncup when pads became too icky and messy and expensive to cope with anymore! Pleased to report that said friend was one of the lucky ones and is fine now, but I understand that TSS can be fatal.
In this vein, I do worry about hygiene when using the mooncup, particularly as I go to several festivals over the summer and the toilet situation is grim to say the least! When I'm at home, obviously it's fine as I have washing facilities right there, but would anyone know whether it was safe enough to use the antiseptic alcohol gel on my hands just prior to using the mooncup? I would wait until it had dried first obviously!;)
If anyone has any thoughts, I'd love to hear them.
Ta!Never put off to tomorrow what you know you can do today.0
