Hi, quite new here so forgive me if this has been done before...
My girlfriend recently took out a contract phone with O2 through the Carphone Warehouse. They offer an insurance service called 'Lifeline'.
The day after she applied for the phone, she received a phone call from a company claiming to be part of the Carphone Warehouse group. They claimed to offer cheaper mobile phone insurance than the Carphone Warehouse Lifeline alternative. (Now while with me this would have set alarm bells ringing, my girlfriend isn't the best with scams and spotting a fake).
She agreed to it and gave them her card details. As a result, they took a payment of £85.00 for the mobile phone insurance. The day after, her mobile phone arrived along with the Lifeline insurance documents. In the leaflet with the Lifeline insurance it says to be wary of companies from Swansea masquerading as part of CW.
As it turns out, the company IS from Swansea and go by the name 'Sealaway Ltd' with the name 'Phoneguard' as the insurance.
The day later the fake insurance documents came through. It is written in pigeon english and the terms are ridiculous. You cannot claim if the phone is stolen, water damaged or lost without due care.
So my question is...how do I go about getting the money back? I have contacted Barclay's fraud investigation line and trading standards and they are both 'looking into it'. It's been over a month now, and no word from either of them. There is a number on the fake insurance documents, but ringing it takes you to a dead line.
Googling 'Sealaway Ltd phone insurance' brings you to a very poorly constructed website with no mention of insurance.
Help anyone?
