  • Hi an IVA will "drop off" after six years why do you think you will be 45 - it is registered when you start the iva not when you finish it

Mainly food, cleaning stuff, toiletries, birthday presents/cards and dinner money for the girls (x2). Also probably entertainment would have to come out of this as well as it is not listed any where else. We are also tackling a weight and fitness plan so slimming classes and gym/swimming is included. It is more expensive on a diet I think. I spend about £3 a day on bananas alone!!!! :rudolf:

How much are the slimming classes and gym? Could you cancel these and take up walking? (Would cut down the petrol bill too :) )

There's a workaround Sky's 0870 number posted somewhere - involves ringing Disneys freephone number then choosing one of the options to get through to sky...

Dunno how the lads like their hair but a set of clippers costs £20 then its free scalpings for life :)

The dinner money - is this school? Would you be eligable to free school meals? If its work would home made sandwiches work out cheaper?

If things are hard maybe you should let everyone who you are buying pressies and cards for know - if they are true friends they will support you - if their friendship depends on getting pressies then dump 'em ;)

Good luck and you have made the first huge step :)
  • Thank you sparkle that is good news.

Thank you for you tips, gym has been paid in a lump sum. Slimming (£4.25 a week) is ongoing. I am walking more.

I suggested the clipper thing for hair, it was one way to clear the room of men very quickly. They did mutter that they would pay themselves rather than let me any where near, so cheaper result than actually buying them. They have seen what I have done to the dogs.LOL

Nobody is perfect - not even me.
  • Thanks for clearing up fact that IVA damages your credit rating for 6 years from start of IVA. Wasn't sure, and thought it might commence from date IVA ceased.

Well done for acting on your debt crisis.
I started IVA 2 months ago due 65k worth of debt due to me re-training to become a pilot, now employed and going well.
We went to CAB and they handled everything for us and set up a meeting with insolvency practitioner. It took about 6 weeks to be up and running but now it was the right decision to make.
The only negative thing so far for me is that when all bills etc have been paid each month there is nothing left for pocket money!
  • Got inspiration from your posts, I have just started an IVA (read: been through the mill for the last year), I feel a lot better knowing there is another 'normal' person out there going thru the same (in a tiny way) thing. thanks
