council tax banding incorrect

Hi
Wonder if anyone could give me some advice. We have had the voa (i think) checking the house size etc and we received last night a letter saying that us and other home owners have actually been in the wrong council tax band since 2000. They say they are notifying the council but how do we go about claiming back what we have overpaid (council aren't likely to give money back without asking!!) Anybody have any example letters or any ideas on what we do to claim back moneys if we are entitled to it.
Cheers:beer:

As a council, when we receive notification from the Assessor that a council tax band has been incorrect we initiate the process for a refund which with us currently takes approx 3 weeks. We will not issue a refund until we get correct dates from the assessor. Perhaps if you give them a ring and ask nicely they will tell you what their processes are.

If you get a refund have a good look at it.
I was in the wrong band and got a refund backdated to 1991. My local Council paid the refund, but deducted from it the total amount of the remainder of the Council Tax that was due that year !
I wrote and told them that I had always paid monthly and would continue to do so and would like the rest of my refund - they then sent me a cheque for the money they had deducted.0 -
Councils usually give refund within a few weeks of receiving notification from VOA.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
