self employed tax assesment

in Cutting tax
my OH went self emplyed in April this year. does she need to fill out a tax return this year for submitting by oct 31st or jan?. we are guessing it is only for the 07/08 tax year and she doesnt need to do anything.

You are right. Her first SA return will be for the year ended 5th April 2009, to be in on paper by 31st oct 2009 or 31st Jan 2010 if submitted online.0

she needs to inform the HMRC within 3 months of starting and to start paying class2 NI contributions0

thanks guys, she has started paying NI but we were just worried about that one point as we hadnt received anything through the post0

They dont tend to send you much stuff on NI. I pay my Ni via the post office and they send me payment request form every 3 months and thats it.0
