Parcelforce delay - compensation

I ordered something from the USA which arrived at ParcelForce UK last Tuesday, I straight away paid the clearance charges, - the paperwork states that "following payment, deliveries will normallly be made on the next working day".
Yesterday, 6 days later, I call ParcelForce to be told that the parcel will be with me by 6pm that day.
Today, still no parcel, I speak to someone who tells me that she currently doesn't know where my parcl is and she is trying to locate it.
What is the way forward? Can I demand some sort of compensation from the depot manager?

Compensation for what? Have you suffered financially because of this delay?"We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -
For what? I'd have thought it was obvious.
You work for the post office, dont you clive. Don't ask me how I can tell0 -

I have never worked for the post office, I was just curious what loses you had suffered that required compensation? How much compensation do you feel would be appropriate?"We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -
"following payment, deliveries will normallly be made on the next working day"....I think the get out word is "normally"....as far as I know when an item is sent from the USA, parcel farce are just handling it when it gets to this end as a reciprocal" agreement with USPS and any claim would probably be determined by the method chosen when it left the USA....obviously them and UPS and FedEx have priority shipping methods....which do cost more....but I think you have to look at how the item was originally sent from the States....if it was up to 21 days delivery....and it landed on our shore within 7....it still gives Parcel Farce 14 days to deliverI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

What have I suffered? Apart from spending God knows how long on hold and the cost of phone calls, I have lost my parcel for 7 days, Clive.
If you went in a restaurant and your food was 7 hours late, would be happy that you've suffered no financial loss? Its the service which is the issue, Clive. Does that make sense?
I feel some sort of good will gesture would be appropriate.

Thanks Torby and xplora for your helpful replies, - at the moment, i'll be thankful just to recieve the item alone.0

you could get in touch with the sender and find out what method they used to send the item....I had an experience not too long ago where I bought an item off Ebay...I paid for the carriage and extra insurance....turns out the sender sent it USPS and the service he used did NOT have compensation OR tracking when it reached our shores....it did not arrive, but the seller reimbursed me in full....and he said he would claim on the insurance....which as far as I'm aware he wasn't able to do...
anyway....the sender should be able to tell you the service he paid for....and then you can investigate the possibility of your claim further.I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

Have they confirmed you won't be receiving your parcel? If they have then you should be able to claim for the cost of the item + delivery costs. Was a delivery date agreed when you placed the order?
How many restaurants have you demanded compensation in?
You are the one seeking compensation, surely you must have a figure in mind. How much would you consider appropriate?"We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -
The manager had to confirm with the 'night duty manager' that he hasn't got it, - if he hasn't, then ParcelForce have lost it, - i'm still awaiting a phone call this morning to let me know one way or the other.
Parcel Force have told me that i'll have to claim from the company that I brought the item from, and they'll have to claim their money back from PF.
No date was agreed when i placed the order. I never said I've demanded compensation in a restaurant, - but I have refused to pay after eaten, - or been given a free desert or something as by way of an apology.
I haven't a clue what is sort of good will gesture would be appropriate, - I was hoping some of the more experienced people on this forum might offer up a suggestion?
I have paid my money for an item, - and ParcelForce have not only lost/stolen it, - they didnt even have the dcency to let me know. This has only come to light a week after it should have already been delivered and I get on the phone and start chasing. I dont see how a company can just 'get away' with this. Maybe we're just so used to the 'customer is always wrong' attitude in this country we just accept it.0
