SOA Calculator and use with Advisors/Partners etc

Although the SOA Calculator is being used in earnest on here and on The Motley Fool's equivalent discussion board, I have often wondered how it is used more broadly. For example, have you used it for discussions with the likes of the CCCS, Payplan, CAB, creditors etc or have they insisted you fill in their documentation? Have you used it as a working document with your partner or have you used it to seek advice from others not on discussion boards?

Part of this is just out of interest, but it will also help me get a feel for what enhancements may be most useful if I have a better understanding of where and how it is being used.

Any feedback would be most welcome.

Thanks
Clariman

I forgot to say in my earlier post that the calculator makes it easy to share your SOA with advisors etc. The Format for Print option is formatted so that you can copy and paste the SOA into a document (e.g. MS Word or OpenOffice) or into an email. This makes it easy to send a copy to an advisor or creditor should you wish to.

I haven't used the SOA calculator personally. But it seems like it has been indispensable to lots of people on here. Hope you get some useful feedback on it.

  • I have used it as a working document for discussion with my partner, that way we can tackle the high priority debts. Although i try and put everything on 0% where i can.
On another level..sometimes i find it doesn't always save the info i want it too and has had the odd blip when calculating debt order payments.

I used it as a basis for budgeting for the Live on £4K challenge. (I got to this site in time that although I was spending uncontrollably it was money I had at the time).

I get ideas for cutting down and simplifying from all the SOA's posted, so I mainly see someone elses. I'm a nosy burger, but I've learnt lots from it.

I discuss particular points with hubby, but don't think he could cope yet with seeing a real one!

Can you be more specific? It doesn't automatically save. You have to click the save button to save data. Could it be that you have saved it then made some changes without saving it again?

Hmmm. What do you mean by "debt order payments"? The SOA calculator doesn't make any recommendations on what order debts should be paid off - that's more of a snowball calculator function.
