Payplan & IVA - Not as good as it seems

Hello all,
A few months ago I posted on here (under a username I can't remember!) for advice regarding my current debt problems.
I am currently in a 'Paid for' DMP with Eurodebt , which I was looking to end for obvious reasons. I got involved with them at a really low point in my life, can't remember how, but all I do remember was I was looking for a way out which they could provide. Anyway 5 years down the line & I'm no better off & have only successfully managed to line Eurodebts pockets without actually paying anything off. At the time there wasn't as much info/help with regards to the 'Free' services etc.
Anyway not to bore you all again, I received some great advice & encouragement/understanding from members here...
I was advised the 2 best ones to go with would either be CCCS or Payplan.
Firstly I registered with CCCS website, but after several attempts/requests for help I was never contacted by them. This put me off a bit, so I thought why not give Payplan a go.
I got in touch with Payplan & explained everything to them, they were really helpful & friendly & sent me out a statment of affairs to fill in, which I promptly sent back.
They emailed me back to say that because of the length of time that I had been with Eurodebt & the fact that the debts had already passed through several collectors, they would not likely be willing to accepted on another DMP.
They have offered me an IVA. which seemed a lot better, although my payments would increase, the agrement is more legally binding & full payment would go direct to my debts which would be clear in 5 years.

As it turns out I have now hit a bit of a wall with Payplan too, I keep ringing & requesting return calls/emails but although I expressed an interest in the IVA I am another month down the line & nothing has changed.

So getting to the point I returned to this forum for a bit of inspiration & now it seems that there is a lot of negativity aimed at Payplan & their methods?
within a few minuites of logging on I read several posts regarding Payplan giving bad advice especially with regards to IVA's

I am confused now, I really thought I was on to a good thing with this company, but now it seems they are just another one trying to make money off the unfortunate.

They insist they do not charge for their services, but now I hear differently...

Now it seems that there is a lot more positivity(?) with regards to Bankruptcy, which last time I posted was always considered a no-no unless extreme circumstances.
To be honest I the thought has never bothered me as I am council renting, have an old battered second hand car & have no interest in getting my credit rating back again.

Looks like these 2 have swapped places now? Maybe I should reconsider my options again..
This has really stumped me:confused:

Help:eek:

    as I am council renting
I'm not to sure who you've spoken to at Payplan, but being able to qualify for an IVA is having assests, i.e mortgage / good car, as you're renting, you almost fail the application on the first level,

As you can see from my signature, we're with Payplan, and have never, ever, had a problem with them, my emails have always been replied to within 24 hours, I cannot speak highly enough of them, but each case is different I guess.

What phone number are you using to contact Payplan on?
Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

  • Thanks for the swift reply,
I can't believe they actually put this forward as a viable option then? I mean i'm under no illusions here & am definitely no expert hence why I'm in this position, but isn't that bad advice? all the boxes on my form with regard to mortgages, Hire Purchases etc. were left blank!?!

It's not really the contacting them I'm having trouble with, I can get straight through on the freephone number listed in their emails t: 0800 917 7823 ext: 2222. But every time I call they insist on getting the same person to ring me back, who is either never in or never rings back at the times I say I'm available! (monday-thurs after 4:30 & all day fri/sat/sun - hardly shiftwork!)

Many thanks for your quick & informative reply, I'm glad to see they are working for you, but maybe I should look at other options.....

P.S. once & for all - do they charge for their services or not? (maybe not every month, but there must be some money going their way at some point?)

They charge for setting up and running an IVA, but DO NOT CHARGE for managing a DMP.

Click here and complete your SOA (Statement of Affairs)

Why not run and manage your own DMP? click here the members who run their own DMP will give you all the help / advice you require.
