Combination Microwave Oven - Cheaper or not?

Hi

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this question as still getting used to the website.

We have a 1000w combination microwave oven and have been told by my father that it is cheaper to use this to cook our meals etc than to use our conventional electric fan oven.

For example, made my first chicken casserole today using the combination oven and only cooked for 35 minutes instead of the recommended 1 hour in the oven. Also cooked my potatoes to make mash instead of using the gas hob (took 20 minutes using the microwave).

So my question is (as I am hopeless at maths) is it cheaper to cook my meals in the microwave as my dad says it is, or should I go back to cooking things on the hob and oven.

Thanks in advance

I wouldn't use the combi instead of the hob, for boiling potatoes for instance as the hob must be quicker/cheaper for that. If I'm making mash I cut the potatoes very small so they don't take long to cook, rinse them well after cutting up

I have a combi and I nearly always use it instead of my big fan oven for roasting and grilling, its bound to be cheaper than the bigger appliance I think and things do seem to cook more quickly even with out using the microwave.

I'm still working out how to use the micro/convection/grill together, not been able to get any helpful information from curries (who bought the name Russell Hobbs to use for their own manufactured ovens so Russel hobbs told me) and so I'm left with an appliance with settings that I don't understand; time I got back to curry's again I think.
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

I always use my combi oven well the oven part for cooking, as it is miles easier to clean than the big oven plus it takes a lot less time to heat up and is 1000w so nice and powerful, it cooks the food in good time and my electric bill is not that bad for it so i defo think it is cheaper than the big oven.

I could not live without one now they are the best especially at christmas when an extra oven comes in handy for the roasties or yorkshires etc, but doubly great i can use it as a microwave or a grill lol :)
