    Hi Jim,

Not been in debt myself, but I know what the good people here will be asking for - can you please post up a full Statement of Affairs (SOA) generated from the following link: http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html - it will help people give you much better advice. :)

Writing off loans can only be done in some cases, and may not apply to you. If it doesn't, you're going to have to settle down to paying your way out of debt over time. But you've already made the first big step by admitting you need help, and if you get your SOA up, it's a good place to start charge of your life again. :)

The OFT have issued a public warning about these companies. Since they can no longer get peope to sign up to IVAs and no-fee no claim insurance cases, th9is is the latest ruse to extract money from the debt ridden.

If your debt was taken out prior to April 2007, and comes under the COnsumer Credit Act, then you can request your Consumer Credit Agreement. In the absence of that, the DCA can no longer pursue you through the courts. They can legally mark defaults on your credit record if you stop paying but sometimes people already have the default and either use the absence of the CCA to negoitiate reduced payments, halt interest charges or stop paying.

It does NOT write the debt off though.

if you debt is recent, since 2004, it is likely that the CCA exists and many of the major banks were on top of this as far back as the 1990s. Some however seem to be extremely disorganised.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

    Hi

CCCS are perfectly Ok and will give you good advice free.

Avoid the sharks that try to sell you their services by offering 'loopholes'

If you are working, and living at home, you should be able to free up enough income to make inroads into your debts.

Have a look at this calculator (use MSE format). If you want to post the result on this board, we'll make some kind and non-judgemental comments!
