Plus size patterns for Fancy Dress costumes

Hi
I'm looking for a fancy dress outfit for a Christmas party, the theme is fairies/goths/witches...etc
I've trawled ebay ..and the so-called plus sizes in my price range are up to about a 16-18 .. and pretty cheap an nasty looking, whereas the ones that might actually fit me (uk dress sizes 22-24) are soooo expensive
Im looking for ideas to make myself one.. i have a sewing machine.. but not really sewn anything for years and years.. and then only basic stuff.
Soooooooooo if anyone has any easy patterns...or indeed any ideas for a costume... (sexy and flattering to the larger figure :rotfl: ) then i would really appreciate it.:T
Thanks in advance
Jasper

Have a look at www.sewingpatterns.com
I`ve bought plus size fancy dress patters from them before.
Also, Simplicity patterns are £3.95 at the moment , my local shop has an offer on with different brands every couple of months.I get the number from the website then go and buy it.
Hope that helps.0 -
Thank you nuttywoman
I'm never sure about ordering stuff from USA. But theres some good ideas there.
I'm trying to find a pattern for an easy to make corset now!0 -
How about using a normal outfit, for example black for the gothic, or something girly for the fairy, and just look at buying accessories where the size is less obvious. A Top and long black skirt could be worn with boots, and the black lacy gloves and possibly a 'gothic' hairdo using clip in extensions would be fairly easy to achieve with not to much effort. Thanks to everyone who posts competitions0

Hi ljaybrad..
Thanks for that.. I have thought about that.. I'm edging more towards the gothic fairy thing, but its the black what .. I can't get. lol
i need a corset type top and a skirt..not sure these netting tutu's will flatter my shape!lol then sum fishnets and my Dr Marten boots.
I can probs get a wig and sum wings .. but it's mainly the top/skirt i need.

A corset type top might not be needed. At the moment there are lots of lacy, overtops available, these have been around for a while now so maybe you might be able to find then at a charity shop, and then just put one of these over a plain tshirt or vest top. And nothing says your skirt has to be short... how about a flowing black or purple skirt... If you cant find one how about getting a length of material in a dark colour and another in a lacy material and just using these to cover an existing skirt or trousers that you may have... simply sew, or even safty pin them together over the top.
Hope it helps. Thanks to everyone who posts competitions0 -
If you need a corset style top in a large size, have a look at simplybe or fashionworld, you could order from them for next day delivery too. hth0

Hey that sounds good :T I especially like the idea of a nice lacy top over a vest top!

but black leggings or opaque tights with a lace overskirt type thing mite look good !
