14 years - originally mid-way between both our jobs in the last recession so reduced my 120mile daily commute to 54miles per day, as 2yrs was tiring to do this everyday.... Despite OH moving her job closer to my place of work in the first week we were in the house, prices there were much more (still are) there (30-40% more like-or-like) and these days her job is only 1 1/2miles away, so she can bike daily, leaving dd at school on the way. I still do 54 a day.

We're still in our first home, but we did buy a detached to avoid neighbour noise as noted by others. Hadn't thought we'd stay here all that time, jobs though would be only real reason to move as we both are involved in the community in which we live. Nearly went for a 5 bed home three or four years back but couldn't justify the extra £150k mortgage when there are only three of us.

So here we still are even though we never set out with that expectation

I think 5 years is the most I lived anywhere even whilst growing up, my parents bought a new house each 3 to 4 years then when they spilt up we moved with my step-dad a few times.

Even when I met my dh we rented several different places, the longest being our first house we brought finally before moving up to North Wales in 2005.

The house we live in now is going to be for the long-term, time to settle down now after nearly 13 years of marriage!

My granddad has to be the only person I've ever known to stay in one house for a long time - 60 years!!!!
  • I've lived in this seaside town since I was a child.

    It's a popular area but I wouldn't mind a change.

Just can't shift my OH - also a local lad.

Always lived within a mile radius of where we live now(apart from University). We have lived in this house 22 yearsand love it,fabulous neighbours, great convenient location, semi rural but 10 mins from town. The house has been guted and rebuilt to our taste, and is always an ongoing project.

I've lived in the area I now live in on and off since I was 7! I went off to uni and worked elsewhere for several years and am now back again (well to its cheaper neighbouring area). Moved back here ~7 years ago! I now live closer to the Primary School I attended than when I went there :o :rotfl: My parents still live closeby and my brother lives even closer still! :D :rotfl:
    Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!
