MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to the Weddings board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.
There is already quite a lot of information on moneysaving weddings there.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Hi
My husband and I thought exactly the same thing. No need for expensive do's. The important thing is that it is what we want. We got married at a civil ceremony in September at the Old Mill House Inn in Polperro. Four poster room b&b for £50 per night (for 2). Absolutely beautiful. £331 for the ceremony charges. £60 for the room hire charge. £40 flowers from a local florist - and a local photographer took the pics for £200 and put them all on a CD for us to do with as we wished. Wouldn't have bothered with a photographer if we had any guests but it was just the 2 of us. Wedding dress was in the sale from Monsoon (£40) and grooms linen suit was £50 from M&S. Fantastic meal out at night paid for as a wedding present by family. We had a big night do for £900 at a local hotel with the speeches (very impromptu) and cake from M&S which my daughter decorated with sweet pebbles and chocolate seashells to go with the seaside theme. All just so fantastic and so chilled and stress free. My husband and I walked down the 'aisle' together.
It was just what we wanted - no stress, no seating plans - no tradition at all really. It was just about the two of us and everyone said the night do was one of the happiest occasions they had attended as all the 'official' stuff was all over with weeks before and we could just enjoy the night as much as the guests.
Not sure how to add pics in here but let me know if you know how and I'll post some - or pm them if that's possible.
Just go with what matters to the two of you - that's what's most important.0 -
I'm getting married next year May 23rd (spring bank holiday)at Chipping village hall in Lancashire and amazingly they are only chargin £95.00 for the hall and they cancelled the friday so we can set it up. and optional fee for them to clean up afterwards is only £30.00. Its a beautiful venue and i was so amazed at the price.
I hope that this will be a helpful suggestion for anyone who lives around there.0 -
I walked down the aisle on my own (for my 1st marriage), my dad died when I was 20 and I didn't want anyone else to do it, no one commented that it was odd. That was a civil wedding.
When my mum and step dad got married they walked together
I'm hoping to get married next year, we've not totally decided what to do this time but it will either be together or me on my own
Honestly, don't let it bother you0
