Yes it is as good as any in that price bracket. It will do pretty much 95% of things a home user entry level photographer wants.

Others will suggest the nikon D40. But

If you want noticeably better you will be looking at 3X the price.
6 Mega pixels is fine for A4

If you want to spend more money, then buy a tripod which you will find more userful than spending another £100 on a camera. Cheap manfrotto or Slik 88 on ebay.0 -
I can second the Manfrotto recommendation, bought one myself on eBay for £30ish and it does as much as my mates who paid over £200 but a bit heavier!
If you want VFM, you can't go wrong with a 2nd hand EOS350D or 400D from eBay. There's a good chance you'll get most of the start-up kit with that too, including filters and lenses etc that all add up! Plus Canon/Nikon have plenty of lenses about that all use the same fittings as the old SLRs so you should be able to find a bargain there too

OK in the last day or so Argos are now knocking out the Nikon D40 at £224. They also have some kind of voucher offer at the moment I think for an extra £10 making the D40 £214 which is a very good price for a DSLR.

voucher details can be found on the entry into the Argos site.
