Loan Horror story
Hi all, I have just found out to my Horror one of the loans that my Mum was paying back was from a very long time ago with barclays which my stepfather took out in approx 1997 he then died a few years klater & the Bank told my mum that she was still liable to pay. She cannot remember it ever being a joint loan.
When she moved closer to us the Bank she said were continually pestering here to repay it even though she never took this loan out.
But to my horror she has told me that she took out a new loan in her name to pay off the old one, This happened quite a few years ago & she has had a few other loans since that are now paid off.
Is there anything I could do for her regarding this or is it too late as I have no acoount nubers etc except the most recent one.
Many thanks,
Simon

It is difficult as the original loan was in your Father's name, which means that your Mother will not be able to request information from Barclays unless you have a solcitor who can obviously claim that he is working on behalf of the estate. You would need to get details of the loan to have any chance of resolving the issue.
There may be some assistance here. If the bank insisted that your mother repaid the loan then they should provide a copy of all the relevant documentation regarding the debt. I think it is worth a try. You may need to seek the advice of a solicitor.
sorry I cant be of more assistance .I am a former Broker, former IFA and former compliance officer, for my sins.
However, I have since seen the light.0
