DIY repair to rip in leather sofa

Hello
I did a google for leather repair kits and there are several available. The rip is in the centre of the seat cushion, and its thick flat leather. I'm not expecting to be able to do an invisible repair, I just want to stop the rip getting bigger and to prevent my puppy from ripping out the cushion stuffing!
Looks like the best place for me to go is Halfords and the like, to get a kit for repairing leather car seats. Wondered if anyone had tried these.
Thanks
