A couple of Bankruptcy questions

Been speaking to CCCS re bankruptcy, I just have a couple of questions. When it was mentioned that my wife worked in the accounts industry, they did say it may affect her job? She is not an accountant or anything like that, infact she is a Purchase Ledger clerk. This can't be correct can it? I took it to mean if you were an accountant within a company or self employed providing services for other people? Surely a Purchase Ledger Clerk for a company could not be affected?
Also the other thing is do our landlords need to know what is going on? We rent a property and we have always paid the rent on time no problem. We are thinking of just my wife going bankrupt not myself but we share the tenancy?
Any help would be greatly appreciated on either subject.
Thanks for reading.

I am not 100 per cent sure on your wifes job, has she got a contract of employment that states she cannot work there if a BR? Can she discuss this with her HR department beforehand?
On landlords I know some are contacted but then others have said theres have not been. My rent was up to date and always is, so I hope to keep my home and roof over my head. I take it yours is not with a council? Some Days are Diamonds Some Days are Stones,Sometimes the hard times won't leave meBSC 162:beer:Banktupt 22 Oct 2008 at 10am!0 -
Thanks for the reply,
No it is a private rented house, I will check the Tenancy agreement but I think it just the standard agreement that most rented houses have.
I'll get my wife to check her contract, she doesn't really want her work to know the situation at present. Thats another thing do they have to be informed?0 -
Hi karma, i don't know about you wifes job, she could always check her contract of employment to see if it says anything regarding BR, if not i would be tempted to not tell them anything, none of their business.
Check your tenancy agreement, if it doesn't have any BR restrictions written in it then you don't have to mention anything.
Most private landlords are simply happy if you keep your rent paid up to date and keep the property in a tidy state.0 -
Hi and welcome KP. Its up to the OR whether or not they contact the landlord. I think they are supposed to but many don't providing you are not in any arrears. You can always ask them not to and hope that they don't. Saying that if your landlord is going to be informed I would ask if you could inform them first as I think its always better coming from you. If you have been a good tenant then that is always worth mentioning and also tell them that without all the debt you can more easily afford the rent with no problems. I can't really think of anyone on this forum who has been turfed out because they were BR - providing they were up to date.

With regards to the work thing, would your employer not find out anyway when you tax code is changed to nil?
Am I right in thinking you dont pay any tax, it goes towards the debt?0 -

Payroll department has to keep change of tax codes confidential, it doesn't say where on the version that they get the reason why, and HMRC won't tell them.
And as somebody who used to process payroll, you really are just entering data, you don't question what HMRC tell you to do!!!0
