  • in wales, older not wiser we get a tution fee loan, paid to university in two installments. we also get what is called a student suport loan, this is what i refered to as being £1175 and depending on your household income you are eligible in wales for something called assembly learning grant (also called supplementary grant).

the learning grant (non repayable) is not being paid in my circumstances until my partner (self employed builder) has completed his tax return. i don't know if the op is in my region but this could be the case with her. last yr i got the learning grant up front, my lea will issue a lump sum if applicable for the learning grant when they have completed their assesment of household income.

you might find it useful to look at this http://www.studentfinancewales.co.uk/portal/page?_pageid=56,1275996&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL have a look at final year payments you will see max available is £4285 you then have to fall into the category of being eligible for a HE grant (if op is on 3 yr degree she would have started in 2007 and not be eligible) or for the assemebly grant, equally if her partner earned over £22750 she would also not be eligible.

would just like to say though, the op asked for help regarding job hunting, all you have done is bark on about student loans and tell her (and me) what about the student loan, what about the student loan when nearly all of the other posts have been about job hunting, if op wanted advice on student loans, she surely would have asked for it?

Sorry, you didn't say you lived in Wales but you did say "i'm also on the £1175 rate of student maintenence grant " so I wasn't to know that it was the loan that you're referring to! Calling a loan a grant isn't really very helpful to anyone. I'm well aware of the situation re student finance as it's been my job to advise people on this, but thanks for the link anyway!

I've ben asking the OP about the student loan because she hasn't mentioned taking it out and may not realise that she can still do so. This would be helpful to her finances and easier to achieve than getting a job when pregnant. Making sure that someone has taken all the funding available to them will be more helpful than making suggestions about applying for jobs they're not going to get. Anyway, the OP said "Can anyone offer any advice at all?" and that's what I've been trying to do. She didn't stipulate that she only wanted information about jobs.

did you not see in OP post that her location is wales.
sorry if i didn't give you the right terminology and it confused you, guess we're not all perfect
also, this is the emplyment and job seeking board not student board, i guess if op wanted student advice, she'd have gone there don't you think?
sorry but i just don't like the posts you have made towards the op, experienced or not, your posts, i don't think have been helpful

As a mum and with an OH, does your OH work regular hours? I am thinking that if you were to offer babysitting in the evenings/weekends (especially with Xmas/Xmas parties coming up), you could even do your studying in the peace and quiet of somebody else's home while being paid for it. With your OH back at your home looking after your kid/s.

as soon as I go to interview and say I'm XX weeks pregnant, that's it but unfortunately, it can't really be hidden.

You don't have to tell them that you are pregnant at interview, and they are legally not allowed to ask if you are.

You could try not mentioning it at interview and wearing floaty clothes, so you look a bit plump rather than pregnant!
Here I go again on my own....

I'm sorry that you thought my posts unhelpful and you're right, I didn't notice that the OP was in Wales. However, I have been offering advice, whether you recognise that or not.

Surprisingly, words do make a difference and if you gave someone information on income tax, when you really meant national insurance, or Income Support when you really meant Incapacity Benefit then you'd be very negligent and cause a lot of problems. It's not a question of being perfect but of being accurate.

Stop stirring things up; as you yourself haven't managed to get a job then I doubt that you can offer much more than sympathy.
