Learn to Play Guitar

I want to learn to play guitar! I have an acoustic and an electric from a few years back but never got round to learning properly. So I am starting from scratch really and wonder if anyone had any books they could recommend or teach yourself materials...anything really

i taught myself some 10 yrs ago. i only bought one book, a chord book, and from there you can start learning lead. i watched videos of guitarists over and over, noting where their fingers were on the guitar, pausing the vid and copying them. then i listened to cds over and over again until i could play the songs myself. it is a very gradual process. i would also buy a guitar tablature (tab) book, you dont need to read music to use this, its a picture of the strings and frets on a guitar with dots on to show you where to put your fingers, you get cds with a lot of these so you can listen to what you are playing. when you get good, buy a gibson les paul as well (like i did....sounds gorgeous and bassy, much prefer it to fenders!) :snow_grin
