CO OP account help with some questions please

Hi

Okay can anyone tell me who has an account if you pay in cash at the post office how long does it take to clear? Also if you pay cash into a branch does it clear the same day?

How do you find out if the account is NOT frozen? I opened one, but have nothing in it. now have to get some in as I need two DDs that I gave the account number to to go out next Wedneday. Also need to set up my others which may be a pain, but will do this after work tomorrow... well I will call them up and see what they say, electric gas.

TV licence anyone wanting to change that over to another bank do it online just send and email they reply and have offered for me to reply with new bank details by email, now thats what I call a good service.

Think there was something else but my brain is not working well !! mind you did it ever work well:rotfl:

    Hi Rylynn,

I dont know about in branch as we dont have one by me but if you put them in at the Post Office it takes 5 working days.

Your OR should be able to tell you if the account is frozen but also they can get it un-freezed for you too.

    Hi

Paying cash via the post office into your cashminder account is instant using your Visa Electron card, this is also the same if you pay into your local branch your funds are available straight away.

As for your account if it's frozen or not one quick call to your OR ask if the account is ok to use.

Okay thank you very much for your help.

I did ask in my PO but had not got the electron card with me, as it was prior to BR on Wednesday. He said bring in the card and we can see if it WORKS. I was horrified. why would it not work!

So tomorrow on my way for sons flu jab will take card and a tenner and see if I can get it into the account! If not the OR will have to be called on Monday. Mind you as long as it is not the PO who have the problem I guess.

At least I know when it works I can pay money in very locally to me and not have to trek into town.

Still lots to sort out but getting there I think now.

Just phoned Nat West have to say what a lovely lady, explained why the DDS had to be cancelled and she said how sorry she was to hear it. I said I knew NW were unlikely to let me keep the account even though I had never done anything wrong or owed them a penny. She did confirm it has NOT yet been frozen. How quickly were other peoples accounts frozen, or does that take some time?

    Thanks again for your help.

  • Rylynn, my bank accounts weren't frozen straight away, which was a good thing as my Maternity Allowance was paid in after I'd asked twice for this not happen and for me to be sent cashable giros instead. I'm 3 weeks post BR and I think my accounts are still open, but obviously I'm not using them so don't know.

Thanks Jo, I guess it will be frozen now as I just gave them the information on BR. I had to she asked and I dont do lies. She wanted to know why I wanted the DDs all stopped, I told her I was very sad as I had been with them for 3.5 years and had not one complaint about them as a bank.

I will write a letter to them, but like you say I will not use the account unless they say I can, but the OR may not want me to use it. He may feel one account is enough. Just felt that the Co op could have my wages and Nat West could have my stuff I have to put aside for MOT/ TAX etc then I cannot spend it!! Mind you I survived with just Nat West since IVA so will survive with Co Op.

I guess when that judge signs your Bankruptcy Order you think everything will happen immediately, and of course that is not the case! My DDs were due out on Tuesday, but wanted to make sure my wages had hit my mums account and not Nat West as my wages dept are not that bright at times!

Money in mums account so really wanted to do the decent thing and tell NW.

  • I agree NW are a good bank, you never know they may allow you to keep the account but downgraded. I had a privilege bank account with co-op prior to br and they downgraded it to a savings account and said you can keep it and have your cashminder account. Some banks want your custom and if the account has no overdraft or credit facility, some don't shut them, so you never know :)

They cannot downgrade it Jo, it is a step account it had to be with the IVA, so has no overdraft no cheque book etc. It is just the same as the co op cash minder account. Will wait and see if they close it or not.
