why can a mortgage fail After DIP Agreed

Dont want to put the heebee geebeeies on this but I had a client who had their mortgage offer which was withdrawn 1 week before completion !! The lender did a pre completion score on the app and something had changed to make it fail.Dont know what to this day. Between offer and completion dont do anything which may affect things - ie borrowing money / credit or as some people do change jobs etc.

My partner and I are having big problems with the bank at the mo. We sold house early Oct and arranged to port the mortgage product to the new house, Unfortunately the new house fell through (sellers end) 2 days before so we put offer on a new house straight away. We called the bank to advise of the problems and advised if a delay would be a problem., was advised we had a three month window and could still port the mortgage product. 3 weeks down the line we have a mortgage offer but a few details were incorrect, bank advised this would be amended, then we were told that the product was now obsolete as we didn't exchange on the same day! If an offer is sent does this have to be honoured? we have been told that we need to take out a new mortgage and we may not get our redemption of 3500 back either. Any advice?
