spml/capstone mortgages

I fell into arrears with my spml mortgage when my husband was ill. They would not help me, only suggested to change my mortgage term from 13 years to 22 years. I did but it has gone up so much I am virtually paying the same amount. They will not put the arrears (now £2,400) on the end of mortgage as they said they do not do this. (I have heard they do, but obviously not for me). I am trying to pay off extra each month, but as long as I am in arrears they charge me £50 charges a month getting me deeper in arrears. There seems no answer. Any advice most welcome.Thankyou.
