Be honest Spooky, trim where you can, it is your pet after all, bit like someone saying to me how much is my son worth to me... priceless would be the reply.

Hope it works out for you, at least you are an honest lady, so hope things go well for you.

There was a poster,oh way back when i first came on here. She too had a horse, had had her for years. The only problem she had was with the OR allowing for her keep to come out of her i&e. I am not sure what happened, the last i heard from her she still had the horse. As FYP says though her value may be an issue. Will rack my small brain to see if i can remember her name or find the post for you. It may help.Dx

Yes, i remember that and found the post, but she never updated it so no idea what happened.

MissSpooky, you mention that sancturies won't take her, but my local one that my DD volunteered at, had a couple of horses that the owners could no longer afford and kept them there, fed them etc, but refused to sell them.
I've no idea how it worked, or whether the owners paid for there upkeep in any way.
It maybe an idea to call a few and see what they say?
Maybe an ad in the local paper. Lots of little girls would like horses, but the parents won't allow them too until they've had some experience of looking after them. Maybe an offer of looking after your horse etc for a small fee/part share would do it. Add a pleading, 'i can't afford to keep her otherwise' should bring the local animal lovers rushing out.:D

I hope you manage to sort this, and please, no more mention of meat/glue etc :D

Hope you manage to sort thsi out, to have a horse for so many years and a prospect of not being able to keep it must be hearbreaking.

Not meaning to hijack Miss Spooky's thread but there might be something useful in there re. horses/BR/ORs and all that c**p (not the horses....)

I read some of the more recent events in this poor woman's life; didn't know the background though.
Makes my problems tiny by comparison.

    Miss Spooky,
I really hope you manage to find a good home for your horse, or someone to share expenses. I can see how much you want to keep looking after her, but you will really need any surplus cash you have after BR for all the unexpected horrors that might happen over the next couple of years - car repairs, washing machine breakdown, emergency dental treatment etc - because when these things happen, that's when it suddenly bites home that you can't stick the cost on a card and worry about it later. Don't mean to be negative, but as someone whose exahust pipe fell off yesterday (£70! Ouch!), I thought I ought to warn you!
    all the best
    Lily
  • Thanks again for your replies and words of wisdom.

The two posts were very interesting, actually bought a lump in my throat, not just from the horses point of view, but the life stories as well. Some people are really dealt with crap cards. This certainly is not easy.

Lilybart, the one good thing that I can be thankful for is that I've (we've) had such crap credit histories for such a long time, that I/we actually don't have any credit cards, so to suddenly lose them will not affect us in that way. I do understand about unexpected horrors though.

I sat and had a chat with my oh last night. In a nut shell we are currently in temp housing - been here for 5 mths now. Due to my ds disability we had some extra medical points. So I was really happy when I saw our housing officer this week and was advised that we are next to be rehoused. Obviously I wish for my sons health more than anything. But he will be ok. (He's got moderate hearing loss which wasn't picked up until he was 8mths old. His consultant wrote a letter saying that our living conditions could seriously affect his hearing and could make it worse. So we were put on priority list.

As we will need to buy white goods & other bits of furniture, flooring, decorating etc, (as houses are practically gutted except for new kitchens and bathrooms) we have decided to leave br until after xmas.

The main reason behind this, is that hopefully my oh should be getting a big bonus in Nove which we can put towards the new house. That way the or won't take it all. Though I can still justify were it all went.

With regards to Anika (Horse) this will give me another few months to sort something out.

I'll keep you posted when we do go br, as from the other posters, there are a few of us around with horses!

    Many thanks to everyone.
