I'm on a very limited budget at the mo, after spending money on renovating my home. Unfortunatly, I never gave loosing heat through the windows a second thought. I need some cheap ideas which will help reduce heat loss from my home.
* my home has new got loft insulation.

As a starter...
Thicker curtains. If you have unlined cutains, you can buy some thermal linings to attach to your existing curtains if you can't afford new ones. Also, door curtains to go on your front/back doors. This space is available to rent...

I have got door curtains up, I have venetian blinds, never bought curtains. So, I would be buying the rails and the curtains.0 -
I've heard "glazing" them with bubblewrap works well.0

Please don't be too proud if you can't afford new things. If you browse your local charity shops (maybe even travel to the next town), you should be able to pick some up and a fraction the the price. Who will know they are used, apart from you? This space is available to rent...

I have blinds on all my windows with curtains (lined, and thermally lined where I have been able to afford it) in front of them. Apparently using two layers works as well as secondary double glazing if they are closed at dusk and opened to maximise solar gain during the day.
Use track rather than poles if you can, as this means the curtain right agains the wall and there is no draught going up behind it.
Close doors to unused rooms - treat them as insulation.
Fit draught excluders round doors (get the best you can afford). Do the most exposed ones first if budgets are tight. Make draught excluders for indoors.0 -
I found some heat shrink plastic window film in wilkos which was quite reasonable (£5 ish I think) which you stick on with the tape included and then blast it with a hairdryer and it goes tight and prevents draughts. I've used it on a back door which we do not use and it's works well. Problem is we can no longer open the door but as it was disused I'd rather be warm!
Curtain Track is quite reasonable in wilkos too. I also found my indoor market had very cheap curtain track.0 -
Extra thick curtain in the bedroom - £10 M&S sample from shelter. A roller blind but this is ineffective compared to thicker curtains.
Doubled curtains in the living room nobody's noticed or commented yet.
Curtain over living room door - need one for the front door.
Kitchen and bathroom are unheated and doors kept closed.0
