Northern Ireland bankers draft.

Hi all,
I got a bankers draft from a Northern Ireland bank today to take to England to pay for a car. Can anyone tell me if they are acceptable to English Banks? The main problem seems to be that it is from the First Trust bank and the seller says that his bank will not be able to verify the draft as there are no branches in England although we are part of the United Kingdom and the First Trust Bank trade in England under the name of AIB or Allied Irish Bank. In general terms how do bankers drafts work? Can they only be taken to the issuing bank? That certainly was not my understanding of a bankers draft. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am supposed to be on a flight tomorrow morning before the banks open and I only heard about the problem after five this afternoon. Any help apreciated.

They will accept them as a cheque but the seller is correct they cannot verify whether it is genuine without it been presented through the clearing system.
If I was the seller I would make you wait until the funds were cleared in my account before letting you drive away.0
