CCCS call tomorrow

That's very kind of you, Sarah. I don't suppose you'd feel able to say anything, but has there been some kind of change of emphasis lately at CCCS? Perhaps it's just a coincidence, but it does seem strange that we've seen three or four new posters this week advised to go for DMPs/IVAs when their circumstances would ordinarily point to bankruptcy.
There have been no changes at all. The advice provided is purely based on the figures and information we are given on the appointment. As mentioned in the previous post we are happy for people to have second appointments if they would like further advice or if there are changes in there circumstances.
I can only speak for my own appointments, but sometimes if the client mentions that there is going to be a change in the circumstances, then reduced payments are suggested until they know for sure as bankruptcy is a last resort as you all know.I am a Debt Counsellor that works for the CCCS and have specific permission from Martin, to post on these boards to try and help those in debt. Read more information on the CCCS and what it does in the Debt Problems: What to do and where to get help article.
CCCS is a registered charity, and there is no charge whatsoever for any of the services we provide to our clients. We take great pride in offering first class help and advice, but we only offer this where we have been able to fully explore and understand your circumstances with you. We want to help you understand these choices and their possible implications but not make them for you.

Thanks, Sarah, that's very reassuring.
Neverindebt, I know what you mean. The interest is the real killer. Please take Sarah up on her offer, PM her and get some extra advice, and do call National Debtline too, CAB also, and maybe get a second opinion from CCCS. It must feel very overwhelming at the moment, but the more advice and opinions you can get, the better you will feel and the easier it will be to choose a course of action and move on.

Dont cry Neverin debt, it is a stressful time and we all understand how you feel right now, most of us have been there, and there seems to be no end to it, and control has just ebbed away.
Send the lady above a pm and I hope you can get something sorted out, as I say I know how stressful this is, it nearly killed me off in 2005 and I was advised on an IVA which was the total wrong thing for me as I have been told since, an NO the CCCS did not give that advice, the IVA people did, but my one main gripe is that BR was not explained fully to me back then, or I would be sitting here as a discharged one now and not someone only just done the deed.
No BR is not right for everyone and there are other ways out of some situations, however there are situations where BR is probably the only way out.
You need your husbands support right now so tell him that. Dont just leave that is not going to solve things in the long run, it will just cause you more heartache.

While i dont want to start an argumenent, or undermine the fantastic work CCCS do, I have to disagree, something has changed.
I have been posting on this board long enough to see the change.
Of course i have to assume we are getting the same information as the OP,s are giving there CCCS advisor, but assuming that we are, there is no question BR is either not mentioned whan it is a viable option, or incorrect facts given, which apear to be to put people off considering BR.
It could simply down to lack of training, lack of information, or maybe the OP,s are telling us more than they are telling there CCCS advisor.
Whatever the reason there is no denying something is wrong, and i for one am very concerned that the right, or a ballenced view is not being given, as it was when i used your services.
I agree BR should be a last resort, but it should also be advised if that is the only realistic alternative other than a 10+ year DMP, or IVI where there are no assets to protect, im sorry but that is not happening as demonstrated in several threads on hereThats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all ………….0 -
Do you know I have often thought about this, so I am going to stick my neck on the line and say it.
When reading here, and seeing the SOA in black and white, being able to constantly go back and ask the poster questions I have wondered how on earth is this dealt with over the phone. I am not knocking anyone here, but can see the plus side of having things maybe via email. Dont all rant, I realise that may not be viable.
When people are stressed out, low, depressed, suicidal they may not always give the complete picture, or all the information, which may make it very hard for the person at the end of the phone to grasp the full picture.
However, having said all of that, I know that everyone here told me back in JUNE when I first came here how great CCCS were, and to be honest seeing what people posted up about their experiences when using this service it only confirmed that.
Sadly over the past week or so, I have read of at least 4 people who seem to have been given advice that is not the same as others have been given and when looking at the full facts printed up here looks like sure case of BR, to my very untrained eye.
We on here can only go on the facts given to us, and I think most of us can now spot a wheeler dealer, unscrupulous person, or a wind up merchant, and it is very sad to see someone here tonight in such a low state and crying.
I hope the OP gets back to Sarah, or rings Nat Debt line and gets some more advice.
I hope that people here will continue to give support and tell of their experiences as they are more valuable than anyone can possibly know to someone on the start of the BR journey.
I realise CCCS send out stuff to get a clearer picture, or I assume that is what OP means.
I also realise no one can tell someone to go BR that is a decision you have to make yourself, but to do that you need impartial advice with as many possibilities of what is open to you. And surely we all know there are times when BR is the only option, I certainly had no other way out and I had tried with the IVA.
I also realise there is the case that a judge may refuse if the deficit is huge and the everyday living cannot even be met after taking away all the debt, but I would have seriously thought those cases are not the majority, I may be wrong on that, I dont own my home, have no assets to shout home about, only my little old car which gets me to work.
I hope this lady gets some real sound advice and soon, and I do know what it is like to feel like this. I however had a great friend, who gave me great advice and sent me where I needed to go, HERE to this site in June. Knowing I had been sold an IVA which was certainly not what I should have done at that time in 2005.

I totally agree with Bat and Rylnn, somethings not right here, although, as BAAB says, we may not be getting the full story, but lets imagine we are.
When someone, in an obscure way, sets their heart on going BR and sets themselves up for all that BR brings, it must be a huge dissapointment to hear that they shouldn't/couldn't.
Neverindebtagain, please keep posting and seeking advice from here, cab and national debtline.
If i can contact him, we have a fabulous member called debtdoctor, who works for the CAB and is tireless is his pursuit of rights and wrongs. His advice is about as sound as you'll get hun.
Hopefully i can get him to look at your thread and help you.The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter0 -

Hello neverindebtagain.
I just wanted to say that you may not have all the answers yet but I wouldn't agree that you have gotten nowhere. After years of debt, you have faced up to the problem, you have sought help, you have made positive steps forward to sort things out and you have posted on here to gain advice and support. I sure wouldn't say that is "nowhere". I'd say you've made a fantastic start!2025 DECLUTTERING CAMPAIGN MrsSD. Physical 92, Digital 203, 10 Used Up
