credit card DILEMMA!!

Hi,

I'm writing because i'm having a few problems trying to figure out how to manage my credit cards at the moment.
I have five credit cards,

Sainsburys £0 (just paid off)
Marks and Spencers £2800 (£1200 0% till March, £1600 0% till Feb)
Alliance and Leicester £2000 (0% till Jan)
Mint £1500 (5.9% runs out in Feb)
Barclaycared £1400 (6.9% life of balance)

Up until now I've been managing to shift my debt to maintain low APR but just recently Barclaycard messed up two of my card payments, which meant that not only did they want me to pay them late fees but it also made me go over my agreed overdraft in my bank who charged me also. Fortunately I managed to get Barclaycard to waive the fees, and my bank agreed to reduce its' fees by 50% because it wasnt my fault. But now, I think these late payments have effected my credit rating because I was recently got turned down for a RBS card. My plan was to shuffle my debt around but this has left me with a problem.

I rang Sainsburys to ask if they had any balance transfer offers but they did not, neither did MINT. So now i'm left with at least three credit cards that are nearing the end of their offers and if I dont come up with a plan to I'm gonig to start paying high interest. I'm afraid to apply for another credit card because i might get turned down again which wont help the situation. I usually pay all my debts on time and usually pay extra. I cant beleive that i may not be able to get anymore credit because of the mistakes made by a credit card co.!!! Does anyone have any suggestions?

It is more likely that you were turned down for the RBS card because they own MINT and don't want customers to have 2 cards. I suggest you go over to the stoozing board and look at card providers. I can't remember off the top of my head who owns the M&S or Sainsburys cards - but I don't think it's HSBC so you could try them.
Still wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!

    M&S = HSBC
    Sainsbury's = HBOS

I guess I wont try HSBC, just looked at MSE's best BTs, looks like Lloyds Platinum may be a option.
Wasnt aware of the stoozing site, good to know!

    Thanks again.
  • I would try ringing sainburys, see what they will offer you and if they don't offer anything go for cancelling the card. I tried this with Abbey - Told them I wanted to cancel the card as I had no use for it without a good balance transfer rate, I got out through to the cancellations department and low and behold I was offer 2.9%! :rudolf:

That sounds like a great idea, i have rung them once and they said they had no offers on but maybe if i'm a bit more cut-throat this time, i might get somewhere!!

    Thanks a lot!
