Wow! I've missed a right fortnight's action, haven't I?!
I've been catching up on everything posted, and would like to thank all the usual suspects for making their generous contributions, and Xueta for posting the crossword answers.
This time I think I actually would like to single someone out for a special word, and that's Binxy. To have the patience to draw up a list of questions posed over the last six months is worthy of everyone's appreciation! Someone did ask if you could post a copy of the entire message on here, and I would certainly have been interested in reading it.
As had been pointed out, Kazzea also started off the thread of problem questions, and, I'm sorry, but I think that was quite enough of a contribution to get Darragh and his team working on the right lines, if they really do want to answer those queries. Now maybe I'm just too cynical and grumpy, but I honestly do wonder (and come on, I bet you have, too!) whether Darragh's request for this info is just a quick way of presenting evidence to his superiors. How convenient for him to have an instant summary of members' concerns!! Press the PRINT button, and hey presto!
I, too, posted a list of questions which was ignored. There followed a request for a repost, and I did that, too, and that was ignored in turn. Darragh has promised a reward for the person who posted the list of questions. A similar offer of a reward for info has been made before, and the reward was not forthcoming. I hope you get your points, Binxy.
Kipling has also posted a list of questions, essentially the same as my own old one, and no acknowledgement from Darragh.
As Archi Bald pointed out, Kazzea's summary of questions went up to 19 November. Why has PB ignored these for almost a month?
I hope I'm wrong, but I have little faith that a list of questions will be answered on here. They are not answered on PB's own forum, so why would they answer here?
All previous promises to answer concerns have been broken, and we were asked to be realistic once before over how much time can be spent here by PB staff. OK - straight question: why ask for MSE-ers' questions and complaints, then repeatedly say that you are too busy to answer them?
Well, there is currently no reason to visit PB, apart from the pleasure of answering questions, but I would be better off going to sites where there are prizes worth winning!! What is the point of Kazzea spending time posting answers to questions which lead to nothing?tha_laydee wrote:Maybe we should thank Darraghs post to show our appreciation...? I too reckon he's a brave man for bothering to come back after the hard time he's been given...he's only one man...if he sits here trawling through these seemingly neverending threads then he'll never have time to reply/do something about it
You won't be surprised to learn that I disagree with the sentiment behind these words. Darragh has offered to answer questions previously, and has not done so despite people's efforts to keep the presentation simple to try to speed up the task. Many of us, including me, have said he is brave, although I think I might have added that it was also foolish to volunteer to answer people's complaints on MSE.
I now think that neither is correct. As said above, I now believe that we are providing PB with readily collated feedback on their performance, so that future changes can be based on our opinions. If not that, it does at least provide management with summarised reaction to the site, and in greater quantity and quality than appears on PB's own forum. (And we should ask, eyes wide open, why PB run a forum at all).
I thought pdotie's informed and thoughtful post #183 (here) was full of good sense. More of this, please!
Yes, I will be continuing to look at PB for the time being, mainly in the hope that improvements will come about. The promised additional ten-point feature offers during the week would be very welcome, and I can understand PB wanting to tie points giveaways more tightly to purchases from partner sites. That makes commercial sense. But, as has been pointed out, not at the expense of visitors to the PB site.
Enough waffling. I've probably upset loads of people already!Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good. - Thomas Sowell, "Is Reality Optional?", 19930 -
