NI bill

Can the IR bill me for National Insurance contributions not paid for me by a previous employer?

    Not normally because National Insurance Contributions are a liability of the employer.

  • you would get a letter inviting you to pay voluntary contributions if that year has fallen short. THIS IS NOT A BILL! if you worked and earned over about £4500 in a year, just send back form HMRC include with letter and details of your employer/P60/payslips from that year (photocopies are fine) and it gets sorted that way.
    the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j

    We've had letters for several employees saying that have underpaid NI in 2006 / 07 and asking them to top it up. When we queries it they said that it was a mistake as they were behind in processing the 2006 / 07 (!) year end returns and would send letters out in January saying that.

    Might be worth checking that with HMRC in your situation.
