I hope you get something soon, I know how rubbish it is to be out of work and not getting anything you apply for. Hopefully someone else will come along with work ideas for you in a minute.0

Tried signing up with Mystery Shopping companies?
Do you think there might be something wrong with the way you're applying for jobs? From personal experience I don't think it's particularly difficult to get into service/retail jobs.0 -
Have you been selected for interview on any of the jobs you applied for? You can ask them for feedback if you were unsuccessful to see where your going wrong.0

Hia,
Just to know, I'm skirting these boards regularly as I'm in a similar position. Having held a senior management role in my last two positions, I'm finding it very difficult indeed to get any type of work at the moment. It's completely dry up here in the North East.
If it makes you feel any better, I even applied for a couple of the xmas jobs on here and have only heard back from Marks and Spencers. They helpfully told me that my talents do not match the talents they are looking for.
I'm degree educated, currently studying Post-Grad law and I can't even get a part time or temporary christmas job. I'm at my wits end... all I want to do is work for myself as my faith in employers has hit rick bottom. I didn't realise you had to be a complete numpty for most vacancies, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered with investing in my education.I'll have some cheese please, bob.0 -
Is it possible you could leave your degree out and be a bit vague about your previous jobs? You normally need to tailor your CV to the job you're applying for. Employers don't want to employ people that are overqualified as they know they're going to be looking for another job.0

I've tried this but employers can tell when you're being very vague about your past. Also, my references are at the level expected from a senior manager and would not match what I say I have been doing. I also wouldn't want my previous employer to have to dumb down my references as this could harm my future career. I'm basically trying to get temp work until my ideal job comes along, which in my field is quite niche, so it will take some searching.I'll have some cheese please, bob.0 -
Hi ya
Sorry your having a tough time at the mo, have you tried looking into working in the charity sector (paid for of course) I work for one charity from home and works well for me. people tend to forget about this sector but quite a few sites which have paid for charity work on and they love it if you have a degree (isnt it a shame to feel like you have to dumb down something you worked har at, just a thought)

Kinda reassuring to know I'm in the same boat as other folk. I was thinking about taking in ironing, but that was a non-starter as I hate ironing!
Is there a posh area you can travel to easily? You could always try leafletting more affluent areas offering to do oddjobs or cleaning.Sealed Pot Challenge number 298, up yours HSBC!0 -
Have you spoken to employers about this? We've employed people in the past in a similar sort of situation to yourself on a deal where you start at a reduced salary and if you stay for six months, you get a "bonus" and payrise up to normal salary. It means you have an incentive to stay long enough to make the training worthwhile for the employer, and if you leave early, they've got the "cut" of your wages to make up for it.I'm basically trying to get temp work until my ideal job comes along, which in my field is quite niche, so it will take some searching.
Depends on how long you expect to look for jobs, but I'm guessing with Christmas coming up six months might be realistic?0
