mckenzie hall help

Hi can anyone help me. I recieved a phone call from these saying i owed them money from 2004 which i do not recall. I have been told from someone on here to send the letter asking for the signed agreement which I am going to do as when they are on the phone and I ask for proof they say they can not provide it and I am just clinging onto the hope that this will put them off trying to get the money that I know I owe which I dont. The question I have is they have my old address, my phone number has never changed, whilst on the phone to them I have refused to give them my new address which they are saying is me trying to get out of paying them the debt but if I am going to request of copy of signed agreement I am going to have to give them my new address really arent I. The reason I dont want them having my new address is just I dont want them sending people around knocking on the door which is what they are saying they are going to do if i dont pay it. I asked him how they can just ring people and say they owe money and not have any proof but they never answer the question. So do i just keep ignoring them or do I send it and tell them my new address or can I give them a email address to send it to. This is really stressing me out as I have never took any debt out, I am lucky enough to only have debt of £150 on a credit card but i have used this site as my partner has loads of debt from before we got together. If anyone can help i will be very grateful. I have read all the messages about these but nothing to answer about my address issue with them

    Hi
Do not speak to these parasites on the phone again.

They could be "fishing". They may well have a debt where they can't trace the owner and have sent letters to people with the same or similar name in the hope that someone will ring up that they can bully into admitting that it is their debt. I wouldn't send a CCA request either as this could be seen as admitting to the debt.

If you are sure it is not your debt, I'd be inclined to ignore them and have no further contact with them. You could send them a telephone harrassment letter which should stop them calling you.

These guys are the biggest parasites and low life ***** that you could ever come across. I have nicer things living in the bottom of my pond!

  • I am having problems with this same company sending me 2 letters about a debt. They have not responded to my letter or questions/acknowledgement request so I am kind of guessing they are not the super extra efficient high and mighty people they claim to be.

Hope you find a resolution from someone that would know more though.
  • thanks for that ill just leave and it and each time they ring me as soon as i know its them ill just hang up on them

At the moment I think you are probably doing the right thing. I've heard a lot of examples of this company chasing the wrong person just because they have a similar name.

If they should get hold of your address then you now know to make them prove that you owe the debt, so you are prepared.

Have a read of the Office of Fair Trading's guidance on debt collection.

That will show you what rules they are breaking, and give you some ammunition. ;)

If you know it's them, I wouldn't even bother answering the phone. I used to ignore the phone unless I knew it was family or friends, others could leave messages. Otherwise, yes fine to hang up or just put the phone on the side and do the hoovering, they'll soon get the message when they get bored with listening to it!

You will find they are lowest of the low and well known. Don't let them scare you.
