Wanna buy a HAM for Christmas

Looking to get a ham (about 3lbs in weight). Would it be better (both price and quality-wise~) to get it from a local butcher or somewhere like ASDA/Tesco? How much would a ham of this size cost?
TIA,

3lb ham about £5 IIRC.
Unless you want an organic ham, I wouldn't bother getting a piece from your butcher. Supermarket pre-pack will do fine I'm sure.
I would avoid a smoked one though - too many chemicals.
Do soak in plenty of cold water for as long as it says on the wrapper, as they're very salty!!
Boiled or baked, they always seem to taste the same to me, wherever they came from.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Get it from the butcher - always guaranteed to taste better!!Treat others as you would like to be treated :A0

I've just got a 3kg one in Morrisons for £11. We often get them and they are very good. I usually boil it for 1/2hr to get salt out and then roast it.0

Was told by an ASDA insider that the 'own label' pieces of ham (budget) is exactly the same as the other ASDA premium Ham
