Just had a card from RMA who are acting on behalf of MBNA saying they're coming to see me on Friday - sometime between 8am and 9pm. I don't have anything to give them - what should I do ??

I doubt very much that they will turn up and even if they do they have about as much rights as the paperboy.0

Thanks - that's put my mind at rest. I've been ignoring their calls and letters for a couple of weeks so this could have just been a way to get me to call them back - I hope so anyway!0 -
As Datcat says they very rarely pay someone to come to your door. They have no rights, they are not bailiffs. If the door bell goes just ignore it. If you do answer the door don't let them in, tell them that all corespondance must be in writing and please go away!! Shut the door.Namaste DeeDee x0

I also had one of those cards, nobody turned up but it is a way of trying to get you to contact them. when i spoke with them on the phone they just refered me back to mbna to explain situation and why i'd not made any payments.0 -
Also, check the wording. Does it say that someone will be "calling on you" or actually visiting your home??? They are designed to panic you into thinking a doorstep visitor in imminent, whereas calling on you can mean by phone or physically.
*If* someone turns up, tell them to go forth and multiply via the letterbox. Don't let them in. You could amuse yourself by shoving biscuits through the letter box and asking if they want tea to go with that - followed by a teabag. It does little to sort the debt, but a little self-empowerment can do wonders for self-esteem in these situations.0 -
I had one of these cards from NCO, I was told here they would not turn up, and they did not. When I look at it now it says someone visit you on Tuesday.. erm it is not dated so which Tuesday I have no idea. We have had the house like fort knox here, no windows open if no on here, all doors double locked, it has worried the hell out of my dear 74 year old mum, and 14 year old son.
I have had letters, phone calls, I replied sorry she aint here right now!
Now get this, they phoned today and left a message as I was not here! so I called them back took ages to get through ended up leaving a message.
Hello you called me regarding ref number xxx my name is xxx please call me back on xxx and it will give me great pleasure to take your call as you have phoned me so many times and I have sadly missed your calls.
Have the rung me back have they hell.
They are scare mongers, BUT do not let them in under any circumstances, which means do not leave anywhere open where they can gain entry, or let one of you kids leave the door to come and get you as they will WALK in.
Have you considered going bankrupt? once you do they cannot harrass you which is why I so badly wanted this lot of morons to ring me back as it was going to give me so much pleasure to say, I went bankrupt this morning at 10am so now get lost and leave me alone!
I know how bad this is for you, it is so scary having all these letters and phone calls and threatening to visit you etc.
Have you taken some advise from CAB or Nat Debt Line.

Hi, I had two such cards....one said Mr Green would call & the next it was Mr Brown !!!. I ignored it on CAB advice & obviously never let anyone in your home anyway!!Never heard anything since.

Have to say, I also received a card and someone did call. Don't wish to scare you but they could send someone.
As previously stated, they have no legal rights. You do not have to answer the door to them and if you do, tell them to bog off! If they don't go, call the police - that will soon shift them - certainly worked in my case but only after the meat head stood outside my house in the pouring rain for 20 minutes!Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free
Mortgage free since 2014

Yup -says Friday but no date ..
I've been speaking to CCCS - haven't recommended bankruptcy yet due to potential adverse impact on me getting a job but the longer not getting work goes on, the more I'm convinced BR is the only route (I've already started filling the forms in in anticipation)
Congrats on your BR by the way - I hope it works out for you ...0
