a lot of shops wont either, for instance book/music shops, will give you change up to £1 the rest will be vouchers

I had £15 of Boots vouchers once that I sold on ebay for £15.50

Not so strange. Some shops charge postage for online orders so (and I don't know abouts Boots) it may be cheaper to pay 50p more than their value to secure them. I live in the middle of nowhere, so it would cost me about a fiver to drive to nearest big town and back, thats without the parking!
