HELP / Advice Needed ... DELL 1100 with 17" TFT...Worthwhile????

I need a computer which my daughter can use for school projects and for internet access. We're on a wireless system w/ Belkin router so I want to ensure she can connect to the internet via same.
While we do have a more than adequate system + laptop, my daughter is often unable to leave her bedroom due to her illness so we want her to have the independence her own computer can offer...but unfortunately have to work to a budget.
The Dell 1100 comes out at around £310 delivered.
I'm looking at the DELL 1100 - spec as follows:
Features:
Celeron D 2.8GHz
512MB RAM
80GB Hard Drive
16x DVD-ROM
17" TFT monitor
Windows XP Home SP2
I'd add in a modem and speakers....and will need a Belkin dongle to enable wi-fi??
Will this be okay? We're not looking for future expansion on the computer, God willing our daughter will be able to use the "main" computer at some point...but we want to ensure the set-up we get will serve her needs, i.e. school projects and internet access/msn.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Mike,
Specs there are pretty good for a base level PC, she should be able to do most things with it, even play some lower spec games. I must admit dell leaves a bad taste in my month after the TV fiasco , but I have never had a problem with their PC's.
Only thing is if your are using wireless you don't really need the modem.

That would do fine, my nephew has a simillar pc and it it is fine for general use.
If you already got internet access on your other pc, you wont need a modem. For the wireless connection via a dongle best to make sure its simillar to your current setup ie belkin with same speed, not vital but helps
You could buy the speaker for 11.85 from dell, not a bad price or get one slighlty cheaper from ebay.0 -
That computer would be absolutely fine for basic word processing, desktop publishing and internet browsing purposes.0

Hi
Either you have found a superb bargain or the 17" TFT is really a CRT.

It's definitely a 17" TFT......as a free upgrade from the 15" TFT.
Stupid me forgot I didn't need a modem..thanks for reminding me darfergu ..makes it even better value then!
Thanks Mikeif i had known then what i know now0 -
Well...just went ahead and bought the DELL 1100 for £327...definitely includes a 17" TFT monitor, so can't be too bad for the price.
Decided to pay the extra for a CDRW/Dvd player and opted for the free Optical Mouse...if it's useless then a 2 button mouse is cheap enough!!
