It's Triodos and they're based in Netherlands and regulated by the Dutch Central Bank, with just one UK adress in Bristol. Apart from that nothing
    :j The £2 CSC = £48 in carton
    £100 banked Mar 06
    V-Free : 4 weeks :)

Triodos are ethical and green, and I've been aware of them for at least 6 years because I nearly applied for a job with them when I first moved to Bristol. I don't think they're dodgy in any way, just not a typical high street bank!

Thats true, they are a legit bank! I work in Bristol and saw a cheque come through fromt them a couple of days ago, asked about them at work and they seem fine, our intranet even had a bit of info about them.

Incidentally, why did she want to open an account with them? Im interested!

I wouldn't go anywhere near a bank that doesn't prominently publish its interest rates on its website

Edited: their rates for personal accounts are here, and they are mediocre

But the OP's sister might value their greenness and ethicality (is that a word?) above her own personal profit. However, if that is the case it would be worth looking at Smile (the Internet branch of the Coop) which from memory offers a comparable rate on its current account.

Not sure actually, just an email from her asking. I'd never heard of them at all. Thanks very much one and all, so far. Its been very helpful. I'm not sure if she plans to open an account yet.

If anyone knows anything else, love to hear it.

    Ta very much.

I think they are a credible bank they have a credit card in association with Amnesty International and I have seen adverts and articles mentioning them in the New Internationalist, the Guardian and Ethical consumer.

I think these are all reliable sources, to make this a viable choice for ethical banking.
