Any suggestions needed

Hi

This is long winded but i'll try to keep it short without missing anything out.

Me and my husband bought our current house in Sept 2006 worth £185k mortgaged £160k we both had very well paid jobs and we were very comfortable. In Feb 2007 I was paralysed in a medical accident which also caused a bleed on my brain. My husband carried on working and we had carers coming in looking after me. In June 2008 I elected to have my bowel removed (it had stopped functioning) and i had a ileostomy formed. My husband took 5 weeks off work to look after me but was made redundant (he's a builder). We have insurance to pay the mortgage. (there messing us around)

Our dilemma is were struggling like mad. There's no jobs out there for my husband. We can not sell and buy something smaller. The house has been fully adapted (through a council grant and you only get that once) I have spoken to the council and they have said there is no suitable properties for us to go into so we would be split up. I would have to go into sheltered accommodation and my husband and son would have to go into a B & B. We have been informed that my settlement will be 7 figures but it's going to take upto 5 years. My solicitor is working on a interim payment but it wont be till next year at least. I have spoken to the Mortgage company and sent them all the proof of the accident in case we fall behind (we are upto date) My husband is panicing. I'm not too worried because i think we should pay half the mortgage cost and if they want to repossess I'm sure that no judge in the land would turf us out with what we've been through. Considering that there will be substantial money owed to us.

What would you do? Any advice would be great. The citizens advice have been useless. I suppose there is no easy answer.

The current market is not great and i'm sure we would just about get back what we paid for the house in 2006. Our mortgage is with northern Rock.

What we pay.

£833.00 Mortgage
Payment insurance currently pays us £1100 a month so leaves us with just under £300, I am on Incapicity and DLA both at the higher rate and my husband gets income support and carers allowance £60 a week. We have debts of around 30k which we pay £1.00 token payment to every month.

I can not work due to memory loss and confusion that's not to mention all the other problems.

I bet you are reading this thinking "That woman must have been Jack the Ripper in a past life................ (that's what i think)

Thanks in advance.:A I'm sure i have posted this in the wrong bit. But i can not change it

I think you should post in Debt Free Wannabe. I don't think that selling your home is a sensible option for you, but neither do I think that you will get away with not paying half your mortgage.

On the Debt Free Wannabe you will get loads of support on how and where you can save money etc. if you post up your State of Affairs (you'll read all about SOAs on that board)

I'll pm one of the Board Guides and see if we can get the thread moved over there. Otherwise just copy and paste this message into a new one.

Best of luck to you :)

i am horrified that under the circumstances that you have been left in limbo.
you must be in terrible pain, you and your OH must be out of your mindwith
worry. i would chivvy the solicitor. phone him, fax him, email him to get this interim payment on the boil. its atrocious that yu are both in this situation without more financial support.
my very best wishes for your recovery. My husband has problems even now with memory due to an head injury accident in his 20's and its extremely frustrating (actually, i think its more frustrating for me than for him, he doesnt remember that hes forgot:rotfl: . Even he laughs at this. Im a geordie, its a natural trait to laugh in the face of adversity. Hope i made you smile.

keep posting, there are some super people on here who give so much moral support, and practical advice.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Thanks to you both

I thought i was posted in the wrong bit. I'll have a go at moving it....... wish me luck.

    Thanks Annie

You sound like me, i laugh all the time and i have a great family and even though they take the micky out of me when i can't get my words out mid senstance, it's all very light hearted. Most people would be appalled but it keeps me sane that even with all this going on I am thankful that i'm still alive and we can laugh. Me and my husband are just like Lou and Andy from little britain......... I really want a smurf outfit!!! :rotfl:
