Need everything for a kitchen! So useful OS stuff is...?

Hey folks
On saturday I move in to my nice shiny bachelor pad  There's a cooker, a fridge and a freezer, but I have nothing else to go in there, not even a fork! So I've begun compiling a list of stuff I'll need to cook like my ole Nan did when I were a lad :)

I've done LOTS of reading on here so meal planning, making stuff in bulk for the freezer and proper recipies will from Saturday be the way forward, going to start the meal plans tonight :T One major difference in my cooking from most OS will be a higher %age of protein (mmm, meat) as working on my Brad Pitt beach body for next summer :kisses:

So at a guess a slow cooker and a bread maker should be on the cards? Anything else I should be considering apart from the usual pots and pans?

-Eski

They're not what I'd start with ;) How about a couple of saucepans, a heavy frying pan, casserole dish, 2 good knives (small and large), chopping board, teapot :D

    Try these threads, too:

    New appartment - kitchen equipment?

    Must have kitchen gadgets

    Unused kitchen gadgets :D:p

I'll add your question to the first thread later, Penny. x

  • A sharp knife, a colander or sieve, I just got a 16 piece set of stainless steel cutlery in sainsburys for £2.49 sale price. Some sort of whisk or mixer.
    A microwave?

Old Style is all about what my grandmother called "home-making" ;) You don't need a BM and SC to do that :p All the things that have been recommended are truly Old Style - I'd recommend getting a really good set of pans and knives, then save up for a BM and SC if you want to get them later :D

No idea if they still do them... but...

Ikea used to sell a kit with everthing you could ever need. 3 pans, frying pan, scissors, flippers, whisks, etc and even a garlic press!. Used to be about 60 quid.

That set above looks fab.. I may want one!!

a bucket for a bin and a carrier bag as a liner.. recycled.. and tesco ones are 100% biodegradable!

Do you have room for a little composter? for all those 'bits'

    A teapot??

Some good oven ware is vital.. one a month is fine.. a large casserole dish.. a flan dish, a roasting pan, etc..

Try a wanted on freecycle for the 'basics' .. and the shops own 'value' brands are cheap as they come and will last until you can afford to replace them.
