Asda wouldn't take sainsburys mag vouchers!

Tried to "spend" some Sainsburys vouchers at Asda today - said their policy had changed and they no longer take them. Also had a £8 off £80 shop (Sainsbury) voucher and they wouldn't take that either. Anyone else had this or is it just my local Asda?

Last time I went to Asda they had a huge banner up saying "WE ACCEPT TESCO VOUCHERS", so if the policy has gone then I am surprised (and I doubt they would accept one supermarket's coupons but not another's).

Mine was ok on Thursday night with sainsburys and somerfield vouchers.

But.......

My friend overheard two cashiers talking about vouchers a few weeks back and one said that asda were going to put a stop to the vouchers around the 2nd Dec.

I queried it when I next went to do big shop but cashier knew nothing about it but said it wouldn't surprise her as they were losing thousands because of th voucher policy.

So make hay while the sun shines.

I can't personally see them stopping it myself though but time will tell.

Yeah I started a thread on this about 2 weeks ago when it happened to me.
Lost out on a £10 off £50 voucher only to go next week and it be excepted no problem. It seems as if there are certain checkout collegues who 'hear' different instructions / rules, so just keep trying.

I have found recently Asda have stopped taking competitors vouchers !

A few ladies did gather around the checkout to 'gang' up on me telling me under no circumstances would they allow any competitor vouchers through!!!

Although, when I said I had better go to Tescos next time (with a smile), one of the ladies 'allowed' a couple of the £1.00 off wine vouchers through (from Waitrose magazine)!!

My Asda never take vouchers for things you're not buying either. In fact I can't find any supermarkets round here any more that do.

Asda have never taken 'other' supermarket vouchers from me.

They take open vouchers for anything and asda vouchers if you buy the product. I never knew asda would take sainsbury's or tesco's anyway.

I only found out they would take open vouchers off the price of the shop as i knew someone who worked there ... and even then they said only upto 10%.

I have said this before in other posts but I do not see why supermarkets should take other supermarkets' vouchers!

May I just say - the only 'vouchers' from other supermarkets I've got through at Asda are the £x off £xx type. Never got through coupons 30p type (off Tesco's, etc)before.

The only reason they accept them is because they ACTIVELY encourage you to use them. If your shopping with them, they hope you'll be loyal.
After all the rough shopper gives them about £80,000 in a lifetime of shopping so what difference does the odd £2 loyalty coupon make? Its them losingthe money.

Hmm but its not the odd £2 any more is it? Some people use 50% plus vouchers on their shopping. I've read of people using as much as 95% on their shopping. If that went on for a lifetime then the supermarket would only get £4k using your figure. Now that is loosing them serious money. Manufacturers aren't always going to be happy to pay out on vouchers when the company hasn't actually sold the same number of products as they have vouchers for.

I'm not surprised that they are starting to crack down on it. I fail to see why they started doing it in the first place. Some Supermarkets seem to start things up to increase there marketshare even when there isn't necessarily a demand. Failing to consider or underestimating the long term ramifications. This being a prime example.
