    Not sure why the standing charges are so high. I'm presuming maybe road tax, mot, insurance etc
    it does say actually based on 13-20k car, so perhaps car loan repayments. also i guess insurance is higher on more expensive/ new cars....whereas mine is only £25 per month.

    Car costs - Depreciation is the biggie - or think of it like leasing instead...;

    7 Source: EY analysis based on data from the AA. Standing charges include road tax, insurance, cost of capital, depreciation and breakdown cover. Based on car with new purchase price of £13,000 to £20,000.
    i dont understand what depreciation has to with it- how is that a monthly outgoing?

    eta: i take it they mean if it was paid for in cash then?

    Depreciation is a monthly outgoing if you are going to replace your car and don't have a lump sum in savings set aside for that purpose.

    yes, looking at it, there isnt a section for savings.

    im so glad im not obsessed with status! couldnt cope with spending all that money on a brand new car only to watch its worth drop dramatically over the first few years. :eek:
