Where can I buy cheaper / 2nd hand Text books?

I'm beginning a post-grad diploma course in the new year. Have just received a reading list, and the book prices are really steep. Anyone know where cheap or 2nd hand books are available?

I can't get them through the uni, and Abebooks, Amazon etc all seem to be in cahoots these days - just a few pence difference between each other, so hardly cut throat competition!

Thanks for any ideas.
Ps it's a psychotherapy / psychology type course.

  • ebay might be worth a try - books don't seem to fetch much there. Watch out for P&P charges though - often a fair bit higher than the bid price for the book itself.

You might get lucky and find a seller that has just finished the course you're starting (happened to me once before).

Ebay is a good place as stated. Sometimes you can be lucky with charity shops. I managed to pick up 2 books from the reading list in charity shops when I was doing a psychotherapy course.

After having a clearout of my bookshelves, one of these books I recently donated to a local charity shop in the hope it will help another student out. I had first considered putting it up on Ebay, but the charity shop option was far easier for me. Not very moneysaving I know.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
