catalogue advice needed

Hi all,

My sister has ordered about £600.00 worth of stuff from my mothers catalogue they fell out over this becouse she did it without asking my sister has moved away now and does not pay my mother but she did sign a letter from the catalogue to agree the debt was her's but the catalogue continue to hassle my mother saying becouse my sister is not registered with the electoral register at her new address.

my sister has now lived at this new address around 8 months she will not come and agree to sort this out the catalogue will do nothing to get in touch with her and sort it out themselfs they just seem to be happy sending my mother threatening letters about debt collectors.

my mother cannot afford to pay it off for her and im worried about what this is doing to her she is not very well at the moment and i seek any advice about how best to sort this situation out.

Regards,

#stan.

Your mother should not need to pay a debt that isn't hers.

When you say your sister ordered it from your mothers catalogue, did she use your mothers account or something? Was there a signature requeired in making the purchase?

  • Stan, have you talked to your sister about why she won't pay this? I'm sure the catalogue company would accept instalments if she is strapped for cash.

I can't imagine how anyone would be happy to lose contact with their own mother rather than pay out £600 that THEY OWE! Your poor mother has done nothing wrong. I would definitely be having harsh words with my sister!

  • If your sister ordered the goods from your mothers account without her knowledge and permission then this is fraud, If I were your mother, I would now be threatening your sister that she has one last chance to pay up or I would take this further, she needs to contact CAB for advice

Hi, as far as I know, everyone is happy to pay but how can she sort this out with the debt company, they want all the money from her only and not interesed in anyone else. In theory all her customers could just deny they owe anything and then what?

Well why don't her customers just pay her, and she can pay the debt company?

Isn't there some kind of log book of customers and payments when someone takes on this catalogue business? Why would anyone take on a business like that, where they are an agent but become liable for all their customer's debts?!
